ABSTRACT

Abstract

This work examined Workplace Diversity and Information Managers’ Job Performance of State Owned Tertiary Institution in Rivers State. Three objectives, three hypotheses guided the study. The study was anchored Social Identity Theory. The study adopted the explanatory cross-sectional survey research design. A sample size 248 was drawn from a population of 657 staff of five state owned tertiary institutions in Rivers State. The reliability of the instrument was ascertained using Cronbach alpha. After validation by the supervisor, 248 copies of structured questionnaire were administered while 240 copies were retrieved. Mean and standard deviation were used for the univariateanalysis, Spearman Rank Order Correlation was used for the bivariate analysis while Partial Correlation was used for the multivariate analysis. The following findings were made: there is a significant positive relationship between gender and information managers’ job performance; there is a significant positive relationship between age and information managers’ job performance; there is a significant positive correlation between experience and information managers’ job performance. It was also found that organizational culture significantly moderates the relationship between workplace diversity and information managers’ job performance. The study concluded that workplace diversity is a major motivational tool that enhances information managers’ job performance of state owned tertiary institutions in Rivers State. The study recommended that amongst others that management team of institution should ensure that fair treatment is given to male or female employees and how effectively they can perform in the organization.
