Abstract

This research work, examined organizational citizenship behaviour and performance of money deposit banks in This study investigates the relationship between Audit Committee Attributes and Financial Reporting Quality in Nigeria’s listed industrial goods companies. The research focuses on three key attributes: Audit Committee Size, Audit Committee Meeting Attendance, and Audit Committee Meeting Frequency. Using a descriptive research design, secondary data from audited financial statements spanning 2013–2022 were analyzed. The sample comprised five randomly selected companies: Dangote Cement Plc, Dangote Sugar Plc, Lafarge Africa Plc, Beta Glass Plc, and Berger Plc, chosen based on market size and data availability. Regression analysis was employed to assess the impact of audit committee attributes on Financial Reporting Quality, measured by Discretionary Accruals. Findings indicate that while Audit Committee Meeting Attendance and Audit Committee Meeting Frequency positively influence Financial Reporting Quality, the effects were not statistically significant at the 5% level. Conversely, Audit Committee Size showed a negative impact, also statistically insignificant, suggesting potential challenges with larger committees in terms of governance effectiveness. Overall, the study’s findings underscore the critical role of effective corporate governance, particularly active audit committee participation and optimal committee size, in enhancing the integrity and trustworthiness of financial reporting within Nigeria’s industrial goods sector. These insights contribute to the literature on corporate governance and financial reporting quality in emerging markets.
